for one of the metro stations.




シャンデリアも素敵

中央バザールまたはグリーンバザール。
一番大きいバザールなのかと思っていましたが、
市内から少し離れたところにここより何十倍も大きいバザール
があるそうです。
地元の方はグリーンバザールは小さいと言っていたのが驚きです。

Central Bazaar or Green Bazaar.
I thought this was the biggest one in Almaty but I heard there is an even bigger one
a bit far from the city, and Green bazaar is not that big for the locals.
(To me it was huge!)





グルジア料理
鶏肉のカレーです。
初めて見る形のパンも焼きたてでとても美味しかったです。

At Georgian restaurant having chicken curry with pretty shaped bread!



夕飯でご馳走になったロシアの家庭料理

Amazing Russian dinner at friends house.



お茶を頼むと大きなポットで持ってきてくれるので
みんなで一緒に飲めて嬉しいです

I was very happy whenever I ordered Tea,
since it was served with big pots and we all got to share tea together.






カザフスタンではヒッチハイクが日常だそうです。
ただ、無料で乗るのではなく、道路脇で手を斜め横に出して
車が止まってくれたらその運転手さんとその場で
行き先と料金を交渉して乗せてもらうヒッチハイク、
というよりも、個人のタクシーという使い方だそうです。
これはとても合理的だし、環境にも優しいなと思いました。

ただ観光客や外国の人にはやはり難しいので
おすすめしません。
電話で呼べる、いわゆる正規のタクシーがあります。


The most surprising fact was that hitch hike is normal for Kazakh people.
Although I use the term hitch hike, it's a little different from the western one.
People raise their hand on a street and if a car stops, they negotiate the destination and the price.
Maybe it's more like private taxi.
I thought this makes very good sense because the traffic jam is quite heavy in Almaty during rush hour and it's also good for the environment.

Of course I don't recommend this to tourists nor foreigners since it would be difficult if you are not familiar with the custom.
There are official taxis that you can call.

アルマティの街を歩いていると、本当に木と緑が多く、美しくて気持ちがいいです。
木々を眺めているとなぜこの街が発展したのかわかる気がします。
ステップの中のオアシスだったんだろうなぁと感じます。

The city of Almaty is full of green trees and just walking around the city is truly a beautiful experience.
As I was walking I was admiring the trees and came to understand why this place had developed as a city.
I imagined that this place was an oasis in the middle of the vast steppe.




植物園に行きました。
日本庭園もあります。

Visited the Botanical Garden of Almaty.
There was a Japanese garden too!





植物園からはとっても綺麗な天山山脈が見えました。

Almaty travel log #5 :)

5月のアルマティは野生のポピー畑があると聞いていたので、

ポピー畑探しに行きました。

Before the travel I had heard that there are wild poppy fields near Almaty in May,
so we went on a poppy field discovery adventure.

市内を抜ける途中で見た可愛いモスク

高速道路から外れて道無き道を進みます。

Getting off the highway and taking a wild road

途中で野生のカメさんを発見！！
とっても可愛らしいリクガメです。
こんなに暑くて乾燥している大地で生きる姿に感動。

Hello there!!
We found a pretty wild tortoise.
It's so amazing how this little creature is living in a vast dry land. 

見渡す限り空と大地だけ

Only the sky and the vast land as far as I can see.

さらに車で進むと、イリ川が見える崖にたどり着きました。

We ended up discovering a cliff where we saw beautiful Ili river.

初めて見るお花

First time seeing this kind of flower

そして市内に向けて戻る途中で…

And on our way back to the city...

ポピー畑を発見！

We found a poppy field!

背景にはうっすら天山山脈も見えます

Tian Shan mountains in the background

こんなに広い野生のお花畑は生まれて初めてで

夢みたいでした

My first ever experience of such vast flower filed was dream like❤️

帰り道、市内に近づくと天山山脈がより大きく見えました

Great view of the mountains as we headed back to the city.

アルマティの陶芸ギャラリー : Almaty, Kazakhstan: Travel log #4 Clay House Gallery

アルマティ滞在中に、市内にあるClay House Galleryにお邪魔しました。
アートギャラリーと、陶芸や絵画の教室も併設されています。

While my stay in Almaty, Kazakhstan, I had an opportunity to visit
a local Art / Ceramics Gallery called Clay House Gallery.
It's not just a gallery but they also offer ceramics and painting classes.



入口を入るとすぐに、生徒さんの素敵な作品がずらり

Many students' works at the entrance.



ろくろも手びねり作品もあります。
みなさんの作品を見ると、創作魂に国境はないなあーとしみじみ
嬉しく思います。

Wheel thrown and handbuilt works.
As I was looking at these works, I was thinking there are no borders to people's creative soul,
which made me very happy.



作業部屋にも作品がたくさん。
壁にある大皿はアルマティでも有名なカザフスタンの作家さんの作品だそうです。

Workshop space is filled with works in progress.
The platters on the wall are made by a famous Kazakh artist.




こちらは絵のクラス用でしょうか

ろくろも見せて頂きました！
アスタナのろくろと似て、日本でよく見るろくろよりは小柄です。
この日はちょうど陶芸の先生はお休みでお会いできませんでしたが
ろくろのワークショップも毎週あるようです。

The wheel was similar to the one that I saw in Astana, and is smaller than the ones in Japan and US.
Since the ceramics teacher was off this day, I didn't get to meet the teacher, but
wheel throwing classes are offered weekly.



ちょうど窯入れの途中ということで、
窯の中も見せていただけました！
手作りの窯だそうです。

At the time of the visit, kiln loading was in progress.






中にはギャラリースペースもあり、カザフスタンをはじめとする
作家さんの作品を実際に見て、購入もできます。

There is a gallery space as well and many works of
Kazakh artists are available for purchase!



突然お邪魔したにも関わらずいろいろ案内してくださった
